Beginning my online marketing career in 1998 at Vancouver’s Realm Communications, I was tasked with promoting an in-house designed healthcare group website including eight hospitals and residences. The goal was to increase visitor volume for candidates looking to fill a need for RN’s, PN’s and other positions. After employing sound SEO-related updates to content and design, via my direction to Realm’s website designer, the website traffic spiked due its new top positions in searches for several terms related to “nursing careers vancouver”, “nurse jobs canada” and several other oft-searched queries. This increased visitor volume lead to two recruiting trips by senior staff to Australia.
After several successful SEO jobs for Realm, I moved on to contracting gigs for other local website design agencies and a Canadian ad agency located in Toronto. At that agency, with the sole focus being “search”, I helped several clients with SEO, improved their organic search results and drove new prospects to a variety of client websites. My career lead to managing Google Ads accounts where I built and managed new advertising accounts for the paid ad channel known as Google Ads (aka Google Ads Select).
My first client, a satellite phone company, had a goal of increasing online sales and revenue. In less than a week of strategizing and research a new, well-organized AdWords account was up and running. On the first day of activity, the client’s paltry investment of $25 drove over $10K in sales. Great success. Halcyon days. That lofty ROI (aka ROAS or Return On Ad Spend) didn’t happen out of thin air. A well-built AdWords account was part of the reason, taking an already solid company with popular products and a sound business plan to the next level. All of these critical cornerstones contributed to the bottom line improvement.
